Sado’s Futatsugame/Onogame area is the only tourist attraction in Niigata Prefecture to have been awarded two stars in the Michelin Guide!
Although it could not match famous tourist destinations in places such as Tokyo, Mt. Fuji and Kyoto, which have been awarded three stars, the Futatsugame islands and Onogame rock have the distinction of having been awarded two stars.
Moreover, Sado Island itself, Ryotsu City, Mano Town, Konponji Temple, Sado Gold Mine, Ogi Town and Sado Ogi Folk Museum have all been awarded one star, and Myosenji Temple, Kokubunji Temple, Sado History and Traditional Museum, the village of Shukunegi, as well as the high-tech Sado Nogaku-no-sato museum dedicated to Noh theater are listed in the Michelin Guide; Sado is the only part of Niigata Prefecture to receive such recognition.

It is one of the areas of Japan that has preserved its culture and traditions, as well as the warmth of its people ? typical characteristics of an island community.

Aikawa Yamaki, a hot-spring resort where visitors can hear the famous folk song Sado Okesa, is a one-hour drive from the island’s port.
